Remington Park will go to the dogs – literally – on Aug. 29 when the track plays host to the first Remington Bark event.
The highlight of the event will be local dog owners having a chance to enter their pets in races — featuring specially made dog-sized starting gates — on the Remington Park home stretch.
The dog races will take place between live thoroughbred racing that night, but they won’t be the only notable pooch-themed activity at the track.
Remington Bark will also feature pet supply vendors, dog adoption groups, interactive areas featuring dog agility and working-dog demonstrations, a dog costume contest, a dog wash, a dog photo booth and food trucks. All events will benefit local dog charities.
Horse racing begins at 7 p.m.; the track will be open to guests and their dogs at 6 p.m. All dogs should be leashed. Dogs taking part in racing should be up to date on shots. The first 100 dog owners in attendance will receive Wag Bags loaded with dog-friendly supplies and treats.
Online registration for dog races will be open at www.remingtonpark.com. Racers will be split into three categories by weight. The fee will be $25, with proceeds going to local charity rescues.
