Here’s my list of the top 10 NFL head coaches of all time. The toughest aspect for me in making these lists is how to factor in longevity. At first thought, sustained success over a long period of time would seem to tip the scale in favor of those coaches. On the other hand, if one coach wins the same amount of championships as another, but yet one coach did it in far fewer seasons, you could reason that the coach who coached fewer years would be able to pass the coach who had a longer time frame. I also took into account the level of talent that each coach had on his team, of course a subjective opinion. Not that a coach should be downgraded if he has the greatest collection of talent, but coaches that do more with a little less rank a little higher on my list.
