Game Preview from The Animals
Matt Meyer: An 18 year streak of qualifying for a bowl game came to an end last Saturday as Oklahoma State lost to TCU 38-13. This one was never really in doubt as the Horned Frogs led 24-0. Ollie Gordon rebounded from a tough day against Arizona State with 121 yards and a TD on 25 carries. With 10 catches for 75 yards, Brennan Presley made history, becoming the all time leader in receptions at OSU, passing Rashaun Woods with 294 catches for his career. Presley also became only the 4th Cowboy to amass 5,000 all purpose yards. Only Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, and Terry Miller have done that at Oklahoma State, and all three of them are in the College Football Hall of Fame, and Sanders and Thomas are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Fantastic company for Presley. Still, a dismal night in Fort Worth as OSU’s defense allowed 27 first downs and 468 yards. Be interesting to see how Mike Gundy and his staff handle the final two games in terms of playing time. Now that the postseason and a winning record is out of the picture, I don’t know why the coaches wouldn’t take a look at some younger guys to find out what they have. Texas Tech comes to Stillwater on Saturday looking to improve their bowl standing. OSU has to find a way to stop RB Tahj Brooks, who already has 1,184 yards on the ground this season. With a big day, WR Josh Kelly could pass 1,000 yards receiving. LB Jacob Rodriguez has 100 tackles and 4 sacks to lead the Red Raider defense. Tech has lost 3 of their last 4 but I have no faith in OSU to stop anyone. Cowboys have allowed either 38 or 42 points in each of their last six games. That doesn’t change here. Texas Tech 38 Oklahoma State 20
Game Notes: Oklahoma State Hosts Texas Tech on Senior Day
The Basics
The Oklahoma State football team (3-7 overall; 0-7 Big 12) hosts Senior Day in its final home game of 2024 this week, facing Texas Tech (6-4 overall; 4-3 Big 12) on Saturday, November 23, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Boone Pickens Stadium.
On the Air
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with James Westling and Jay Sonnhalter on the call. It will also be carried live on the Cowboy Radio Network, with Dave Hunziker handling play-by-play, John Holcomb providing analysis and Robert Allen reporting from the sideline. Fans outside of the Cowboy Radio Network can listen to the OSU broadcast for free through The Varsity Network app.
Every Home Game Sold Out in 2024
For the first time in program history, Oklahoma State sold every ticket for every home football game prior to the start of the season. It also marks the second consecutive season sellout for Cowboy football, though the 2023 sellouts were not completed prior to the season opener. It continues a trend of Oklahoma State producing one of the best home-field advantages in college football, as the Cowboys are 25-6 at home since the beginning of the 2020 season. Fans still looking to be part of the action can visit SeatGeek – the official partner of OSU Athletics – to purchase for verified resell tickets. Fans can also visit www.okstate.com/tickets to join the wait list for football season tickets.

OSU’s roster includes 32 players listed as seniors, although many can return by using the NCAA’s extra year for COVID-19. All of them and any others forgoing their final year have the chance to be honored Saturday in what is potentially their final game at Boone Pickens Stadium. OSU’s seniors:

In the Rankings
The Oklahoma State football team is not ranked this week but has been ranked in the top 15 this season in both the Associated Press poll and the US LBM Coaches Poll. Including 2024, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 15 of the past 17 seasons and has reached the top 10 in 11 of those 17 years. OSU has been ranked in the top 25 every season since 2008. Although not in the first College Football Playoff rankings this week, it’s worth noting that OSU has been part of the CFP rankings in eight of the past nine seasons entering 2024. The Cowboys have also been included in 43 of the all-time CFP Rankings, which is among the most appearances in the country. Texas Tech is not ranked.
The Series
Saturday’s game marks the 51st meeting between Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, with the series dating to 1935. The 2024 season also marks a return of the matchup after the teams did not play in 2023. Prior to that, the teams faced off for 27 consecutive years. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series 24-23-3 and has won 12 of the past 14 matchups. The Cowboys hold a 14-8 advantage in games played in Stillwater and have won nine of the past 10 matchups in Stillwater. Coach Mike Gundy is 14-4 in his career against Texas Tech, while TTU coach Joey McGuire is 0-1 against OSU as a head coach.
Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State is 3-7 on the year and returns to action for Senior Day this week after taking its second bye week of the season last week. The Cowboys have dealt with more than their fair share of injuries this year, as preseason All-Americans Collin Oliver and Nick Martin, safety Trey Rucker, safety Dylan Smith, right tackle Jake Springfield, left tackle Dalton Cooper, safety Cameron Epps, quarterback Garret Rangel, defensive end Jaleel Johnson, linebacker Justin Wright, receiver Da’Wain Lofton, receiver Talyn Shettron and others have all missed time this season. The setbacks have had an impact on the team, but there have been standouts who have played well. Wide receiver Brennan Presley has been the most consistent star, and he might garner All-America consideration with a strong finish. Last week he became Oklahoma State’s all-time leader in career receptions and joined College Football Hall of Famers Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas and Terry Miller as the only players in school history to reach 5,000 career all-purpose yards. He is the Power 4 active career leader in all-purpose yards and the only player in the FBS this season with at least 600 receiving yards, 200 kickoff return yards and 50 rushing yards. On the year, he ranks No. 8 in the FBS with 72 catches and leads the team with 937 all-purpose yards, seven receiving touchdowns, six punt returns, 11 kickoff returns and more. He has also rushed for a touchdown, thrown for a touchdown and caught three two-point conversions. His 227 all-purpose yards at Baylor are the most for any Cowboy in a game this season. Safety Trey Rucker has been the statistical standout of the year on defense, as his average of 5.3 solo tackles per game ranks 10th among all FBS players.
Continued Success
• Entering 2024, Oklahoma State made 18 consecutive bowl appearances and secured 18 consecutive winning seasons, both school-record streaks. OSU’s bowl streak was the sixth-longest active streak in the FBS, and was the longest active streak for any school with the same head coach.
• Mike Gundy has coached the Cowboys to five New Year’s Six bowl games since the 2009 season. The Pokes appeared in the 2010 Cotton Bowl, the 2012 Fiesta Bowl, the 2014 Cotton Bowl, the 2016 Sugar Bowl and the 2022 Fiesta Bowl.
• Since 2010, Oklahoma State has eight seasons with at least 10 wins, an outright Big 12 title (2011), a share of the Big 12 South title (2010) and two more appearances in the conference championship game. OSU reached the top 10 of the Associated Press poll in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
• Oklahoma State was one of only four teams to post a winning season every from 2010-23, joining Alabama, Boise State and Wisconsin. It was one of only two Power Five teams with winning seasons each of the past 18 years, joined by Wisconsin.
• Including 2024, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 15 of the past 17 seasons and reached the top 10 in 11 of those 17 years.
• Entering 2024, OSU has finished in the top three of the Big 12 in four of the past five seasons and has finished in the top three 10 times in the 13 seasons since the conference moved away from divisions.
An Oklahoma State Win Would …
• Make it 98-28 in its past 126 games vs. opponents outside of the AP Top 25, dating to 2010.
• Give it wins in 13 of its past 23 and in 26 of its past 39 games following a loss.
• Improve Mike Gundy’s record in November games to 42-33.
• Improve Mike Gundy’s record in Big 12 games to 103-70 and move him to one game away from tying Bill Snyder for the second-most Big 12 wins in conference history.
• Improve its all-time record vs. Texas Tech to 25-23-3 and its record vs. TTU in Stillwater to 15-8.
• Give it wins in 13 of the past 15 games against TTU and in 10 of the past 11 games vs. TTU in Stillwater.
• Improve Mike Gundy’s record versus Texas Tech to 15-4.
• Make it 35-19 in its past 54 games overall, dating back to the 2020 season.
