Friday’s game between the visiting Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed due to rain and expected inclement weather.
The teams will try to continue their four-game series on Saturday with a split doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 1:35 p.m., the second for 6:40 p.m.
Friday’s postponement came roughly 40 minutes before first pitch, with rain forecasted in the Pittsburgh area until early Saturday morning.
It is the first Pirates’ home game postponed by weather all season.
Neither team had announced a pitching plan for Saturday’s doubleheader. Washington rookie left-hander DJ Herz was slated to start on Friday against Pirates right-hander Luis L. Ortiz.
The Nationals (62-78) had lost five of their last six games entering Friday, including a 9-4 setback in Thursday’s series opener.
Pittsburgh (66-74) entered Friday having won four of its last six contests.
